Black tear drop shaped bug?

I have found 4-10 tear drop shaped bugs on my bedding. They are small and transparent and when they get blood in their body it plumps up 5-8 times bigger.
I found them only on one spot... where my cat sleeps. When they have blood in their body it looks as if they were black. No bugs were found on my cat or me.

Sounds like ticks to me.
They live in long grass and other vegetation and attach themselves to passing animals to feed on their blood.
They can carry serious diseases - a friends dog died from Lyme disease picked up from a tick bite.
