Power window won't raise/lower?
2001 Pontiac Grand Prix. I removed the door panel, then removed the clear plastic moisture barrier. There are 2 holes in the metal frame of the door panel, one is the size of a small dinner plate and the other is the size of a saucer. The motor hums when the open/close button is pressed and I can feel the gear turning. The window can slide up and down on a rail if I move it by hand, but the motor doesn't do anything to the window.
What exactly should I be looking for inside the door assembly to make the window work like it's supposed to? I think someone might have tried to break into the vehicle a few days ago.
If I'm not mistaken, this will have a cable system that drives plastic trolleys up and down tracks. The trolley is connected to the bottom of the window via a plastic clip. Plastic clips and trolleys are prone to breakage on GM stuff
If that's the case, the clips on window can be replaced, but they're glued on the window. Remove window from door, carefully remove broken clip noting position and epoxy new clip in place. Re-install window and trim. If the trolley is broken they are clipped onto cable and tipped into track.
On a 1 to 10 scale of difficulty, I'd put this at a 6 or 7 if it's all new to you. Not all that hard, but understanding how it works will put you ahead of the game.
If the window motor is humming, the fuse is good.
