What will happen if i put rocks from salt water in a fresh water fish tank?
I went to Italy this summer and collected sea glass along the mediterranean sea. I also have a fish bowl with a male Beta fish in it. I thought it would be really cool to put the sea glass in the fish tank as the rocks. I'm unsure weather this is a good idea or not because when the pieces of glass are dry they appear to have a white film on them but when they are put in water they look completely transparent, i think the white film might be salt from the sea... What would happen if i put this in my fish tank?
Your Betta will end up dying. Probably pretty quickly.
Washing with soap and water and placing in the tank wil also result in a dead fish. Keeping a Betta in a bowl less than 2 gallons and unheater will result in a shortened life span. They can live for 5+ years if well cared for.
Don't chance it.
Even though Master...s answer may work, I still wouldn't risk it. You can get fairly inexpensive glass chunks at most pet stores and many craft shops. Also, garden centers.
