Why would a cut flowers stem grow longer AFTER it's been cut?
I cut a tulip from my garden and put it, all by itself, into a small vase with water. When I originally put this tulip in the vase, the base of the flower rested on top of the vase, as I hadn't cut the stem long enough. Every day since I've watched the distance between the bottom of the flower and the top of the vase grow. Now, two days later, there's a good three inches between the bottom of the tulip flower and the top of the vase.
How in the world is that possible?? Forgive if this seems like a dumb question. I know next to nothing about flowers and how they grow.
some flowers i know can be cloned just through clipping new growth and you can stick it in the ground and they bush out another one. weird huh.i didn't know that a tulip was one of them. but it could be reaching for sun i don't know huh, weird. i do know that by clipping your flowers off of a bulb weakens the bulb for the next year. see when there blooming they are actually coming up for nutrients. they store that nutrients and at the end turn brown and come down to store it for the next years bloom so next year your flower won't be as big but its a small price to pay to see that beauty inside
